LOS ALTOS, Calif. — The chief technology officer of eBay sends his children to a nine-classroom school here. So do employees of Silicon Valley giants like Google, Apple, Yahoo and Hewlett-Packard.
But the school’s chief teaching tools are anything but high-tech: pens and paper, knitting needles and, occasionally, mud. Not a computer to be found. No screens at all. They are not allowed in the classroom, and the school even frowns on their use at home.

Les employés de sociétés high-tech de la Silicon Valley dépensent une fortune pour envoyer leurs enfants dans une école Waldorf dépourvue d’ordinateurs.
[…] La pédagogie de cet établissement repose avant tout sur l’éducation physique et le travail manuel. Il n’y a pas d’écran en classe : seulement du papier, des stylos, des aiguilles à tricoter, parfois de la terre glaise. De bons vieux tableaux noirs, des pupitres en bois et des encyclopédies sur des étagères contribuent à l’ambiance rétro.
Les partisans de la pédagogie Waldorf estiment que les ordinateurs inhibent la créativité, le mouvement, les interactions sociales et la capacité d’attention. Les trois quarts des parents d’élèves travaillent dans des firmes high-tech et sont surconnectés, mais ils n’y voient pas de contradiction avec ce choix d’éducation pour leurs enfants.
