@krekk, danke!

Vielen Dank!

from Handel's Sacred Drama or Oratorio Jephta

"In honour of Stuart Burrows' () here is his moving rendition of "Deeper, and deeper still....Waft her, angels.." from Handel's Jephtha (available on the Decca label)." rec ~1960ies

(the piano part is not mentioned)

ACT TWO

[...]

Scene 4

[...]

47. Accompagnato Jephtha
Deeper, and deeper still, thy goodness, child,
Pierceth a father's bleeding heart, and checks
The cruel sentence on my falt'ring tongue.
Oh, let me whisper it to the raging winds,
Or howling deserts; for the ears of men
It is too shocking. Yet have I not vow'd?
And can I think the great Jehovah sleeps,
Like Chemosh and such fabled deities?
Ah no; Heav'n heard my thoughts, and wrote them down;
It must be so. 'Tis this that racks my brain,
And pours into my breast a thousand pangs
That lash me into madness. Horrid thought!
My only daughter, so dear a child,
Doom'd by a father! Yes, the vow is past,
And Gilead hath triumph'd o'er his foes.
Therefore, tomorrow's dawn... I can no more.

[...]

ACT THREE

Scene 1

Jephtha, Iphis, Priests and Chorus.

[...]

50. Air Jephtha
Waft her, angels, through the skies,
Far above yon azure plain,
Glorious there, like you, to rise,
There, like you, for ever reign.
Waft her. . . da capo

Reflexe | Michel Serres, ein Denker im Dialog | Schweizer Radio DRS

Michel Serres, ein Denker im Dialog

Michel Serres in einer Aufnahme von 2008.

Ganze Sendung

Jon Stewart, long a hair-clutching foil to Glenn Beck’s hysterics, delivered an epic final blow to the conservative pundit Thursday night. In response to the revelation that Beck would be “transitioning out of his show” later this year, Stewart adopted Beck’s format instead of The Daily Show’s usual cold open, to great effect.

Stewart spent four segments (embedded below) “telling the truth while wearing glasses” while theorizing on reasons for Beck’s departure (the world is ending, Jesus is coming, etc.).

Sit back and Stewart’s genius eulogy for Beck’s hysteria. This footage originally aired on Comedy Central’s Daily Show with Jon Stewart on April 7, 2011.

WARNING: In addition to mocking Glenn Beck and using some offensive language, Stewart also mocks religion.

King Charles XII of Sweden fled to the Ottoman Empire following his defeat against the Russians at the Battle of Poltava in 1709. A guest at the Topkapı Palace for nearly five years, he persuaded the Ottoman Sultan Ahmed III to declare war on Russia, which resulted in the Russo-Turkish War of 1710–1711 that ended with an Ottoman victory.

Inclusive Education

Street children in cambodia

Street children in Cambodia

Inclusive education is based on the right of all learners to a quality education that meets basic learning needs and enriches lives. Focusing particularly on vulnerable and marginalized groups, it seeks to develop the full potential of every individual.

The ultimate goal of inclusive quality education is to end all forms of discrimination and foster social cohesion.

Vulnerable and Marginalized Groups

Today, 75 million children are excluded from education. Seven out of ten live in sub-Saharan Africa or South and West Asia. Sixty per cent of them are girls living in Arab States and sixty-six per cent in South and West Asia. The main reasons for exclusion are poverty, gender inequity, disability, child labour, speaking a minority language, belonging to an indigenous people, and living a nomadic or rural lifestyle.

'Vulnerable' and 'marginalised' are loose terms encompassing many different individuals and groups deprived of their right to education. Below is a small selection of groups as well as interventions and publications that identify solutions to their integration.
